Modular Healthcare Construction:
Rational Prefabrication of Healthcare Components
Modern healthcare providers are increasing turning to modular
methods of construction for patient care, pharmacy, and diagnostic areas.
With the demand for anti microbial construction materials, and clean build
methods of construction, modular systems are increasingly utilized to
deliver high quality and on time construction renovations.
High value engineering exercises have repeatedly proved movement of onsite
labor and fabrication to off site manufacturing facilities results in lower
construction cost, higher construction quality, and less overall
construction disruption to adjacent areas. With the value added benefit of
moving some high cost site built components from capital expenditures, to equipment
purchases, additional savings are realized through normal depreciation of
healthcare facilities in use 24/7, with zero downtime, expansion and
renovation must take place with minimum disruption or particulate generated
as to not impede or contaminate existing patient services. Prefabricated,
and prefinished modular construction materials coupled with clean build
construction protocols allow for less disruptions.
Additional lead times for construction scheduling may need to be allowed for
healthcare renovations due to the
Agency for Healthcare Administration(AHCA) plans approval and inspection
processes. Additional certifications and testing for viable and non viable
particulate by the National
Environmental Balancing Bureau(NEBB) for sterile areas will also be required.
